A Love Song for Ricki Wilde by Tia Williams

A Review By: VJJ

From the New York Times bestselling author of Seven Days in June, A Love Song for Ricki Wilde is an epic love story one hundred years in the making...

Leap years are a strange, enchanted time. And for some, even a single February can be life-changing.

Ricki Wilde has many talents, but being a Wilde isn't one of them. As the impulsive, artistic daughter of a powerful Atlanta dynasty, she's the opposite of her famous socialite sisters. Where they're long-stemmed roses, she's a dandelion: an adorable bloom that's actually a weed, born to float wherever the wind blows. In her bones, Ricki knows that somewhere, a different, more exciting life awaits her.

When regal nonagenarian, Ms. Della, invites her to rent the bottom floor of her Harlem brownstone, Ricki jumps at the chance for a fresh beginning. She leaves behind her family, wealth, and chaotic romantic decisions to realize her dream of opening a flower shop. And just beneath the surface of her new neighbourhood, the music, stories and dazzling drama of the Harlem Renaissance still simmers.

One evening in February as the heady, curiously off-season scent of night-blooming jasmine fills the air, Ricki encounters a handsome, deeply mysterious stranger who knocks her world off balance in the most unexpected way.

Set against the backdrop of modern Harlem and Renaissance glamour, A Love Song for Ricki Wilde is a swoon-worthy love story of two passionate artists drawn to the magic, romance, and opportunity of New York, and whose lives are uniquely and irreversibly linked.

This story is about a life and a love so strong, it transcends time and takes an unexpected sacrifice that makes time slow down so life is worth living.

A Song For Ricki Wilde
The power of words is an amazing thing that can take you away where you can get deliciously lost in the vision they present. When I think of a soul tie, this is what it should read like because it made me…feel! This story made me see what love is and the sacrifices we make for it.

The journey between Ezra and Ricki was an exciting experience; the chemistry between them was alluring, electrifying and intense like the force of magnetic energy pulling them towards each other from wherever they were. It was cozy, inviting, nurturing, enduring and beautifully depicted, so much so that it’s encased in my mind. It’s so clear they were meant to be together and how they got there was one of the best plot twists and reveals I’ve ever read.

Ezra waited eons to find the love of his life, he endured countless losses but when he found Ricki, her love was unlike anything he’d ever encountered and nothing could keep them apart. Ricki, the odd woman out, lived her life to the stroke of her own piano keys. A free spirit that some might call impulsive, but she embraced her uncertainties with bravery. Meeting Ezra changed her life in a way she never could imagine, and her willingness to accept the fate that was handed to her was a perfect declaration and sacrifice to love.

I was blown away with the author’s ability to depict a timeless love with so much emotion that I was literally able to see, hear, smell and taste the characters’ words. This is a story readers like me crave - to drift from our reality and float into the ones authors create.

The audio was the perfect complement to the words depicted. A beautiful story for the ages that was wonderfully performed by Mela Lee and Preston Butler.
