A Girl Like Me by Tay Mo’nae

A Review By: LC

Ne'a comes from a tough childhood and just wants to be loved properly.

She's selfless, nurturing, and dealing with codependency at home. The issues she has are like a stain in her life that she wants to wipe away permanently.

Zane is newly separated from his wife and returns home to BFR for a job and to restart his life. He's known to have a savior complex, and running into Ne'a makes it hard to ignore. While falling in love wasn't in his plans, something about Ne'a keeps pulling him to her, but his ex-wife refuses to let go easily.

It's hard to fall for someone who is damaged. It's hard to rebuild when you've been burned. These two learn that as they grow closer together while facing the challenges thrown their way.

Review Notes:

Audio Book Publication Year: 2024

An installment in a Series? No

Narrator (s): Alyx Monroe, Winston James

Ne'a is a beautiful broke soul. She has had her fair share of men who have done her wrong in the past, including her father. Her mother is dependent on her, and Ne'a is more the adult then her mom is. Then, here comes Zane who has broken bird syndrome, meaning he wants to help anyone while dealing with his own personal broken home life.

Winston James voice is also a treat to listen to. He reads with such ease. Alyx’s voice is very soothing and calming; her performance is good. I don't have any complaints with Winston. Alyx was reading at a slower pace than I'm used to.
