I love the way Darlene Cunningham wrote this sports romance. It was sexy, fun, and super informative. I felt like I learned a lot about hockey by the end of the book.
Drama Simpson: Let me start off by saying Drama Simpson has a great natural voice. It’s deep and raspy and just a feast for the ears. This was my first story narrated by him, and it won’t be my last. His portrayal of Justin was spot on. He was a softer character with a lot of feelings and Simpson did such a great job showcasing those emotions. Justin was just so easy to like, and seeing him on the ice or off was a good time. Now, Drama Simpson wasn’t my favorite as Jaleesa, but I so appreciate him for committing to the character. Ms. Jaleesa played no games, lol. She played hardball with my boy Justin at all times.
This was my second read by Darlene Cunningham, and she never fails to keep me entertained. I loved the characters and the way she wrote this story. A true enjoyment from beginning to end.
While I enjoyed the story, I do feel like Drama Simpson needs to work on his woman’s voice a little more. At moments, I’m just not completely sold on him being Jaleesa. That being said, I do appreciate that he tries, but with a little more time, I do believe he will get better.
