Soldiers of Love: Beautiful Scars by N'Tyse and Untamed

A Review By: VJJ

Profoundly moving and nostalgic, Soldiers of Love: Beautiful Scars is a searing exploration of soul ties, love scars, second-chance romance, and the healing power of forgiveness. Inspired by real events, Soldiers is soul-stirring and perfect for fans of Seven Days in June and Before I Let Go.

Liberty Mae Banks was her birth name, yet Zion called her Mrs. Forever....

It took years and fistfuls of tears for Liberty to convince herself that Zion Malik Mitchell had been a figment of her imagination. She’d suppressed every memory to lessen the burn—and because it’s the proper thing to do once you’ve become another man’s wife. Now the mother, wife, and #SoldiersofLove relationship columnist for Love & Lifestyle magazine finds herself in a heartfelt tug of war when her childhood sweetheart, Zion, resurfaces.

For Zion, Liberty had always been his peace and the one who got away. He needed her more than he was ever willing to admit, and while it’s often said that time heals all wounds, all time had done for Zion was rob him of a future with the love of his life. When tragedy strikes, Zion’s freedom is left hanging in the balance as he awaits sentencing. Plagued with guilt and fear, there’s only one person he trusts to help him through his most arduous battle ever—Liberty.

Will Liberty sacrifice her picture-perfect life and rush to Zion’s side in hopes of healing and setting them both free, or will resurrecting their war-torn past open a Pandora’s box neither will be able to close?

A coming of age story where kids grow up and discover the life they thought they would have, is not the life they are living.

Coming of age vs. making the right life choice.

Liberty and Zion loved each other since 4th grade as kids who grew up in an unkind and unloving environment enduring turbulent home lives where survival meant living by any means necessary. They leaned on each other, becoming the strength the other needed, and as they matured, life kept shooting them blows, changing the trajectory of their lives forever. Both were young and making youthful decisions that lacked maturity and guidance, but I felt for them being in this position.

Zion was for the streets and his Mrs. Forever was the casualty in his struggle to find balance and a way out with lies as the bullet, betrayal as the gun firing the shot killing trust that laid their relationship to rest. Liberty found solace in a friend who showed her she could trust her heart with him and Quincy was the Sun that brightened her life. He was patience, strength, overstanding, support, a phenomenal father and an even better husband. I was very happy he was not painted as the villain and maintained his promise to Liberty because she deserved happiness; they both did.

Authors N’Tyse and Untamed did the damn thing with this coming of age story. Their descriptive depictions and visual portrayals were on point, transporting me back to the nostalgic days of passing notes, fly gear, and butterflies in my stomach from liking a cute boy. Soldier of Love is an enduring, yet intense journey that reflects trauma, young love, and growing the fucc up. This was an amazing read that I enjoyed and recommend you take the journey.

I would’ve loved to read more into Quincy’s feelings and his insight about Zion and Liberty.
