The Perfect Mistress by ReShonda Tate Billingsley
A Review By: LC
Lauren Robinson knows exactly what it takes to be the perfect mistress. She had a front-row seat when she tagged along with her father on all of his extramarital trysts. She loved keeping Daddy's special secrets, but many family members, especially her mother, consider her an accomplice in helping break up their family. This emotional distance and Lauren's early dating experiences lead her to date married men.
That is until Dr. Matthew King enters the scene, and when Matthew proposes marriage, Lauren happily accepts. But as their very public engagement makes the news, someone is intent on sabotaging their relationship. Someone who watched her own marriage destroyed by Lauren and won't be happy until she gives Lauren a taste of her own medicine.

Lauren was just a professional side chick that only had the interest of a married man and that is it! Because of this, she had very few friends and it caused a strain in her relationship with her own mother due to her dad’s adulterous lifestyle. With no family, she is on her own until she meets a female whose life interests her due to the ongoing turmoil in her own life.
The writer does her thing with explaining the world of a side chick! Willing to do any and everything to get what she wants in order to maintain her lifestyle. I loved the performance of the narrator; she read as if she knew what being a side chick was about and stayed in character with the emotions of Lauren the entire time.
The issues I found with this narration include the male voices she tried to portray! Her voice is soft and airy, so male voices really aren’t her niche. Also, it seems like she read the paragraphs a bit too fast and got winded while doing so; you can hear subtle deep breaths as if she was trying to catch her breath from reading too fast
